One of the most popular sports of modern times is indoor volleyball in women's competition. This sports seems simpler to many at first than other team sports, it is pleasing to the eye to watch and by showing it attracts a huge number of children who will later come to volleyball school. Yet sometimes when the spectator himself steps into the field and tries to understand the logic of the changes, the zones, the positions and the rules, things get complicated. Group and complex sport whose history dates back to the 1890´s is extremely popular today (it is among the top 10 most popular), and has the largest number of national federations. Although men's volleyball may not be as popular as women's, viewership and quality are growing as could be seen at the recent Olympics. The volleyball court consists of two fields divided by the net (its height depends on age and gender) and divided by two opposing teams, and only three games of one team are allowed. It has six different positions: setter, opposite, middle blocker, libero, and outside hitter. The theoretical goal is simple: not to allow the ball to fall to the ground. However, when it comes to professionalisam, it is difficult to “pull out“ the ball that goes over 100km/h towards the player. This paper intensively deals with the position of the middle blocker, which is extremely important on the field, and the players in that position, as in any other, possess certain characteristics. Middle blockers are recognizable for their mobility, motor skills and hight blocks, and the number of different attacks they can perform make volleyball even more interesting and allow teams various creations. The aim of this paper is to acquaint the reader with the definition of the middle blocker, its role and tasks, anthropometric characteristics and thcijelinie way it functions in this team sport.
