Shoulder dislocation is a result of direct or indirect impact due to the action of a strong, direct force to the back of the shoulder or fall on an extended and abducted arm. The highest rate of injury occurs in sports with frequent overhead movements such as basketball, swimming and tennis. In the case mentioned in this paper, the injury occurred due to a fall that was the result of anterior shoulder dislocation requiring an open capsulolabral reconstructive surgery. The analysis of posture and provocation tests revealed changes such as shortening of muscles and painful conditions in the injured area and surrounding structures. Upon completion of the surgery, it is recommended to rest and apply ice sheets. After 3 weeks of rest, rehabilitation begins with therapy involving a myriad of passive exercises to avoid the formation of scar tissue. Then it goes to a stage of early rehabilitation that involves active training of the injured structure by avoiding painful ranges of motion and activating the neuromuscular links of the shoulder muscle motor units. When the pain disappears and the range of motion has come close to normal, the stretching and stabilization phase comes with exercises involving equipment and small amounts of external load to achieve normal amounts of strength and shoulder muscle function. At the end of this phase, the normal function and range of the injured tissue movement is expected, and it moves to the phase of activation of the surrounding musculature that is also affected by the injury. This is a phase that involves the synergistic workings of hurt and healthy tissues rendering complete function. The final phase has the task of integrating and automating all the movements that are learned through the whole rehabilitation program and their functional utility.
