Upper crossed syndrome is characterized by muscular imbalance, tension and weakness of certain muscle groups and results increased kyphosis of the thoracic spine and increased lordosis in the cervical region of the spine. This posture can cause pain in the area of the neck, spine and cause shoulder pain. It is a result of sedentary lifestyle where the head is in the protraction. Then the spine stops to be upright and thus burdens the back muscles of the neck that strain to keep the head looking forward. The head in that position is functionally pulls itself and shoulders forward because the overstrained cervical muscles pull the shoulder blades up and away from the spine. Because of this chest muscle starts to tighten as they begin to act as stabilizer blades. By analyzing posture and mobility tests, there have been established changes such as muscle shortening, reduced movement range at certain movements, and pain in the cervical spine, upper back and shoulder areas. After the performed analysis the treatment begins. The first exercises to increase the PROM (passive range of motion) along with shoulder muscle activation exercises and deep neck flexors, as well as the learning of abdominal breathing to be applied in the later stages. At the second stage, stretching exercises of the short muscles were performed exercises for stabilization of surface stabilizers of shoulder joint and strengthening of deep neck flexors were performed. In the third stage we used loads and equipment (ball, tape, weights) for the purpose of achieving muscular strength and endurance in the weak muscles of the back and front muscles of the neck. The fourth phase is a deterioration of the exercises from the previous stage.
