Upper crossed syndrome, which is a consequence of sedentary lifestyle, physical inactivity or injury, is characterized by a muscular disbalance between the neck flexor muscles and the scapular stabilizer muscles and the pectoral and neck extensor muscles. This disbalance causes an increase in the thoracic curvature of the spine, protraction of the head and shoulders, and internal rotation of the shoulders. Except of causing visual irregularities, muscle imbalance affects the destabilization of the glenohumeral joint, soft tissue damage, the appearance of compensatory movements and painful and inflammatory conditions. Posture analysis and tests in clients revealed and increased thoracic curvature of the spine and reduced mobility in the shoulder girdle. Based on what has been observed, an exercise program was planned to improve the irregularities. The plan was divided into four microcycles. In the first microcycle, the client performs exercises to increase the mobility of the thoracic spine, for kinesthetic awareness of the body position and exercises to improve torso stability. The second microcyclus began with stretching exercises for hypertonic muscles and continued with exercises to strengthen inhibited muscles and exercises to improve kinesthesia and stability in unstable surfaces. In the third microcycle, the client uses props (weights, straps, ball) to further improve the strength and endurance of the inhibited muscle. The fourth and last microcycle consists of complex exercises that we apply every day and for their performance we include deep and global stabilizers.
